About Louise

Louise was born in Brisbane, Australia on a winter morning in 1987. She was quickly labelled as an old soul, although never quite understood what that meant.

She grew up a shy child and could often be found with her head in a book. Counting librarians amongst her group of friends, she was a natural storyteller. During the bi-annual family camping trip to North Stradbroke Island, she had parents of the other children within the camp bemused when children’s pillows were lifted to find gumnuts carefully arranged underneath. How else were you meant to hatch Gumnut Babies? Louise considered herself an expert and the other children were enthralled by her knowledge and happy to follow her advice. Her younger sister, Stephanie, was always keen to hear any of Louise’s stories and would roll around in laughter at the stories her older sister created for the lives of their toys.

Unfortunately, not everyone was a fan of Louise’s stories. Her Grade 3 teacher had to forcibly remove an exercise book from Louise’s grasp to review a simple writing assignment. The task, a one-page story about a monster living under a bed. The teacher foolishly hadn’t realised that Louise was hooked on storytelling. Her monster needed a fully developed character, motivation and backstory for the story to be satisfactory. Although she wrote as fast as possible, thanks to the teacher’s intervention, the story remains incomplete.

Louise wasn’t dissuaded. She continued to make up stories and enjoyed reading stories to her Beagle, Snoopy.

She decided from an early age she wanted to be a novelist. As a realist, she knew she needed a “day job”. Becoming a librarian seemed the perfect option. What better than to spend her days reading and helping others discover books and spend her nights writing. Her other potential job was to become a doctor, although her fathers cancer diagnosis when she was ten quickly laced her interest in hospitals with a bit of dread. Although her Dad had often scolded her to get her head out of a book, he shared her love of a good story and introduced her to a variety of genres.

Her first job was working at a Corner Store during High School. It was here she learnt the disgusting fact that Pork Brawn spits its gelatinous meatiness everywhere when you run it through the Deli Slicer. To this day she cannot look at Pork Brawn without getting queasy.

After High School, and her escape from the trauma caused by working in the Deli section, she undertook a variety of roles and training opportunities. Some of these include, Remedial Massage, Administration, Phlebotomy, working with people with disabilities, Online Advertising and connecting radio interviews.

She never lost her love of stories and enrolled at Queensland University of Technology where she completed a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing. It was at this time that she wrote, and self-published a novel for her beloved Grandmother, one of the early champions of her writing.

She has tried many hobbies over the years and discovered to her dismay that she is terrible at drawing, painting and her singing voice could frighten dogs and small children. Her adorable niece also informed her that her dancing skills are non-existent although her nephew finds her dance moves funny. She does however enjoy listing to music, curling up with a book, going for walks and planning holidays.

She has had the good fortune to travel to Italy, Istanbul, Cappadocia, Prague and other areas within the Czech Republic and Budapest. She hopes to add more stamps to her passport.

Louise is a born romantic, which could somewhat explain her multiple marriages. Luckily, third times the charm and she is now happily married to a wonderful husband and living in Brisbane with a mischievous Bearded Dragon called Merlin.
