Welcome to Murphy’s Bluff, the friendliest place on the coast.

Welcome to
Murphy’s Bluff,
the friendliest
place on the coast.

In honour of Captain Samuel E. Murphy who on the night of November 7th, 1877, leapt from the Bluff. The precise reasoning behind the Captain’s sudden suicide is uncertain however, it is understood that the Captain’s wife, who was suffering from delirium brought about by pregnancy had leapt from the same spot in 1837 much to the anguish of her husband who vowed to follow her when he had finished serving the town.

To honour Captain Murphy, the town became formally known as Murphy’s Bluff in 1886 following much debate from the residents.

A close-knit town boasting a school, veterinarian and GP, General Store, and lively Pub. The local hospital only a town away.

Fishing is the primary industry although the farmland is very fertile.
